About Metfoam
Porous metals and Metallic foams are exceptional lightweight materials that possess a unique combination of properties, such as impact energy absorption capacity, good stiffness and strength to weight ratio, air and water permeability, unusual acoustic properties and low thermal conductivity. Their applications include shock and impact absorbers, stiff-lightweight panels, dust and fluid filters, engine exhaust mufflers, porous electrodes, heat exchangers, sensors and catalyst substrates, etc . These are very promising materials that could contribute in solving some of the main issues of our century such as environmental protection and rational use of energy. Therefore, the scientists and industries related to porous metals and metallic foams should devote themselves to their studies to improve and adapt these materials to current needs of our society.
Fifteen years ago the scientific community and industry working on these materials realized that organizing a series of conferences about these materials could be very helpful to disseminate the progress in this area in a quick and very efficient way. Due to this the Metfoam conferences were born. Within the past eight international conferences on porous metals and metallic foams (MetFoam), we have contributed to the spectacular progress of these materials. The previous conferences of the MetFoam series were held at Bremen (1999, 2001) and Berlin (2003) in Germany, Kyoto in Japan(2005), Montreal in Canada, (2007) Bratislava in Slovakia(2009), Busan in Korea (2011) and in Rayleigh in USA(2013). The 9th International Conference on Porous Metals and Metallic Foams will be held in Barcelona , Spain in August 31st-September 2nd 2015. Recent achievements in porous metals and metallic foams will be extensively discussed at MetFoam 2015.
As in the previous Metfoam conferences, the main purpose of this conference is to provide a state-of-the-art review of porous metals and metallic foams and a forum for discussions and networking for scientist working on this field. This will be achieved by encompassing papers dealing with basic fundamentals, fabrication, morphological and microstructural characterization, property profiles, second operation and various applications of porous metals and metallic foams .These papers will presented by a broad group of researchers and scientists representing universities, research centers and industries.
